Its no wonder we can’t get anything done in Canada.
Canada's Parliament
The National Post reported this morning that MP Gerald Keddy of Canada’s governing party, Conservatives has apologized for his ill thought out comment calling the unemployed in Halifax, NS., “no-good-bastards!”
Once again, Stephen Harper’s power hungry government and his group of renegade MP’s have set another low standard of behaviour for all Canadians to expect. Look forward for more unfortunately.
The problem with this government and probably every other government on this planet is that they were invented during a time when ‘Citizens’ where nothing more than ‘Subjects’ and did what they were told or else. Partisan politics ruled the day and any ideology that stepped outside the party line was generally dealt with quickly and severely.
Politics in Canada has reached an all time low in active participation of its citizens and it could very well be due to the fact that Canadians feel very much outside of the democratic equation. Lets face it, Canadian politics is fractured, broken, corrupt and run by a minority who just can’t get it through their heads that the three party system is dead. A minority government has to be managed from a position of inclusion.
All but impossible from my point of view given the deep roots of our adversarial parliamentary party system where the governing party usually has the backing of a minority of Canadians. In a nut shell nothing has been accomplished in the past twenty-five years that has shown the world that Canada is more relevant than its vast natural resources. What ever happened to our aspirations of leading and not following.
It is Time for a new approach to government where the citizens and the unemployed ‘no-good-bastards’ citizens stood up for real change where partisan politics and ideals take a back seat to getting things done.
